Utilising their integrated transport network, XPO operations teams manage daily freight flows outbound and inbound between the ports of Barcelona and Valencia in Spain and Savona in Italy.

XPO moves goods by trailer from the origin to the port, and once the freight arrives via short sea crossing, the company transports it from the port to the destination.

The final stage can be last-mile delivery or distribution to customer facilities, creating a flexible end-to-end solution.

“By using multimodal combinations, we can reduce reliance on road transport and contribute to a reduction of the carbon footprint of our customers’ supply chain operations,” commented Southern Europe and Morocco managing director at XPO Logistics Massimo Marsili.

In July, XPO announced the launch of a new multimodal solution that connects the Iberian Peninsula with the UK by combining road and rail transport. The service improves on traditional road transport to the UK by increasing the shipping capacity available to customers in Spain and Portugal, and the use of rail reduces the carbon footprint.
