Fellow Scandinavian nation Finland came next, with Denmark having the 4th most expensive diesel after Italy. Meanwhile, Malta had the lowest price in the EU, and Bulgaria the lowest of any EU country on the European mainland.

When it comes to petrol, Euro-super 95 unleaded was the most expensive in Denmark (€1,897 per 1,000 litres) and cheapest in Malta (€1,870.74 per 1,000 litres).
