Robotic Tech Vest is a vest to make a person’s work safer when they have robotic colleagues.  The new Amazon concept is designed to prevent accidents at work.

The company tested the Robotic Tech Vest system last year, mainly to increase the safety of its employees during the work with autonomous robots – informs the portal techcrunch.com. The vest is designed to cooperate with currently used security systems in warehouses.

The item resembles a pair of suspenders attached to an electronic utility belt. Built-in sensors enable robots to detect obstacles and manoeuvre between them. Also, autonomous vehicles – that recognise human on their way – will reduce speed. Until now, to avoid a collision with robots, each employee had to mark their location in the system manually.

– In the past, employees marked the boundary of the area in which they worked. They did it so that the robotic system for route planning could provide vehicles a route that they could use smartly – Brad Porter, vice president of Amazon Robotics explains in an interview with the portal techcrunch.com.

Workers equipped with vests are now more visible to robots. Also, they no longer need to mark their exact location.

– The vest allows robots to detect a person from a larger distance and wisely update their journey plan to avoid problems – adds Porter.
