A7 motorway in Hamburg to be closed for 55 hours this weekend

Due to bad weather conditions, the planned closure and roadworks on a section of the A7 motorway at the end of September did not take place. As a result, a section of the A7 in Hamburg will now be closed over the coming weekend.

The roadworks have been postponed until the second weekend of October, and the motorway will be closed for longer than originally scheduled (31 hours in September).

This key transit route in Hamburg will now be closed for 55 hours—from 10 pm on Friday, 11 October, until 5 am on Monday, 14 October.

During this period, the A7 will be impassable in both directions between the HH-Stellingen (26) and HH-Heimfeld (32) junctions.

Entry closures at the junctions HH-Stellingen (26), HH-Volkspark (27), HH-Bahrenfeld (28), HH-Othmarschen (29), HH-Waltershof (30), and HH-Heimfeld (32) will start gradually from 9 pm on Friday, 11 October.

Detours in place

Large-scale official detours will be in place via the A1, A21, and B205 roads. These detours will be available in both directions and are strongly recommended for both transit and national traffic:

  • From the south, traffic can follow the Buchholzer Dreieck junction (43)/Horster Dreieck junction (40) via Maschener Kreuz (39) and continue on the A1 motorway.
  • For northbound traffic, follow the Neumünster-Süd junction (15) onto the B205.

The detours will be signposted along the route using the existing traffic control system (LED signage), reports motorway authority Autobahn GmbH.

In addition to these official detours, the motorway authority recommends the following alternative routes for avoiding the A7:

  • From the A39, take the B404 towards Bargteheide.
  • From the A23 at Pinneberg Nord, use Westring – L103 to head to a location west of Hamburg.
  • For northbound traffic, from the Neumünster-Süd junction (15), follow the B205.

The official detours and alternative routes in the city centre are as follows:

  • From the HH-Stellingen junction (26), follow signs for ‘Elbbrücken’ towards Hanover (drivers heading to the city centre from the north can also take this route).
  • From the HH-Schnelsen-Nord interchange, use the airport ring B432 and B433 or the Alsterkrugchaussee.
  • From the HH-Schnelsen junction, follow Kollaustraße to reach the city centre.
  • Towards Flensburg, traffic from AS HH-Heimfeld (32) will be diverted via the U7.
  • For traffic heading to the port from Hanover, use the U21 diversion towards the port from AS HH-Heimfeld (32).

“Large and heavy transport should avoid the A7 closure as much as possible, as passage in both directions will not be possible,” emphasises the German motorway authority.
