The Spanish transport company has revealed how much it saved on the introduction of CNG trucks into its fleet. The carrier expects that in the future this solution will put even more cash in his pocket.
According to the Spanish transport website cadenadesuministro.es, a truck powered with GNC (natural gas compressed to 20-25 MPa) can generate annual savings of € 8000-9000 compared to its diesel equivalent.
This amount was calculated on the basis of gas and diesel prices in 2016 and for a vehicle travelling 12,000 km. Such data was presented by one of the Spanish transport companies (Fercam Transportes), which in future expects even greater savings. It’s because CNG trucks will get cheaper and the gap in diesel and gas prices will increase.
According to the head of the company thanks to this decision they save about 20% on fuel alone, not to mention the government subsidies which promote and support the transition of the road transport to gas.
Another unquestionable advantage of CNG trucks will be their access to the centres of European cities. Due to deteriorating air quality and stricter EU standards more cities are introducing bans for diesel trucks.
Earlier “experiments”
The Spanish carrier decided to “experiment” as early as 2005. They bet on biodiesel vehicles back then. Unfortunately, due to the lack of warranty and service from manufacturers they had to give up the use of this alternative fuel.
