An experienced lorry driver could potentially lose sight in one eye after falling victim to a sickening attack at an overpass on the A8, where a wheelie-bin containing rocks was thrown at his HGV.

The horrific incident occurred last Friday. Somehow the driver managed to bring the lorry safely to a stop at the side of the road – despite the fact he had shattered glass in his eyes.

According to news reports in Ireland, surgeons are currently doing all they can to save the 56-year-old trucker’s sight. Two surgeries have already been performed on one of his eyes.

Family members have also confirmed that the driver’s face had been badly injured as a result of the attack. The injuries could potentially end the lorry driver’s career.

Police confirmed that their investigation was underway on Saturday:

“An investigation is underway and officers would ask anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area of the overpass or who captured dash-cam footage of the incident to contact them in Larne on 101 quoting reference number 1944 08/01/21.”

The attack may appear as though it had been carried out at random.

However, the police reportedly believe the attack was carefully planned, while one local councillor has branded it as „attempted murder”.
