If you are under the influence of alcohol there is no chance you can start the engine of your car. The government in Holland announces the struggle with drunk drivers, and therefore it is intruducing changes in order to increase safety on the roads.
A new legislation is meant to unable driving your car when intoxicated. Drivers once charged with drunk driving will be required to have breathalyser installed in their cars for effective alcohol testing before starting up the engine. If the result turns out to be positive, the car will not start. Furthermore, in case of a driver with previous diagnosis of alcohol disease, the device can be programmed so that it detects alcohol in breathing within estimated time periods with a subsequent engine stop. The research has shown that breathalysers can be effective in stopping drunk drivers from sitting behind wheel.
