In response to outbreaks of an infectious disease affecting small ruminants in neighbouring countries, Bulgaria has introduced a series of disinfection measures for all vehicles entering the country from Turkey, Greece, Romania, Serbia and North Macedonia.

The compulsory disinfection was first introduced at the Turkish border on 15 July 2024 and extended to the other borders on 5 August 2024.

From 1 September 2024, the country began charging for this service, with the cost set at €2 for private vehicles and €10 for lorries.

The fees must be paid in cash at the border.

This measure applies uniformly across all affected border checkpoints, ensuring that vehicles entering Bulgaria undergo disinfection to mitigate the risk of disease transmission.
