Bulgarian hauliers have been outraged by the discovery that not one kilometre of motorway repairs was carried out in 2022 and that the roadworks on smaller roads were much less than promised. They say that the road tolls in Bulgaria are just as high as the average in Europe, but the quality of the roads is well below that.

The European Commission has declared Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia ready to fully join the Schengen area. A final decision on the matter now rests on the vote of the Justice and Home Affairs Council, which will take place on December 8.
