Today’s headline story: byrd launches fulfillment alternative for Amazon sellers

In its press release regarding the launch, byrd writes that the majority of Prime-certified merchants in Europe rely on Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) and thus make themselves even more dependent on the Amazon marketplace.
The company says that Amazon Sellers who do not wish to handle the logistics through Amazon (FBA), either independently or via a selected fulfillment service provider, face major challenges.
This includes the requirements for acquiring a “Prime Badge”, such as a test phase and high logistics standards to adhere to. byrd adds that 99% of orders received by 13:00 via the Amazon marketplace must be shipped on the same day, using selected shipping service providers. Any drop in standards can result in the loss of the Prime badge.
This is where byrd claims its Seller Fulfilled Prime program comes in. It aims to allow merchants to sell their products on the Amazon marketplace with the “Prime badge” while outsourcing their fulfillment to independent logistics companies. byrd claims this allows sellers “significantly more influence on the customer experience and not being subject to Amazon’s restrictions”.
The company’s Seller Fulfilled Prime program began in Germany this year, working with the first direct-to-consumer test customers to earn the Prime badge and ship Prime orders.
The service will then be extended in a phased rollout.
Commenting on the the service, Petra Dobrocka, Chief Commercial Officer and Co-Founder of byrd, said:
“For now, we are starting with two warehouse locations in Germany, as that is where we are seeing the highest demand. If this proves successful, we would like to offer the service in other markets in the future.”
