New electric truck charging hubs along TEN-T corridors

Milence has ramped up its rollout of electric truck charging hubs with new sites in Germany and France, targeting key freight corridors across Europe.

Milence, the charging network joint venture backed by Daimler Truck, TRATON GROUP and Volvo Group, has opened new hubs for battery-electric heavy goods vehicles in Germany and France.

The company announced this week that it had opened its first electric truck charging hub in Germany’s Ruhr region, located in Recklinghausen near the A2 motorway. The site includes six CCS (Combined Charging System) chargers with a capacity of up to 400 kW and forms part of the Rhine–Alpine and Scandinavian–Mediterranean TEN-T corridors. A second phase of development will see the addition of megawatt charging (MCS).

Two further German hubs, Koblenz and Kirchberg an der Jagst, have also gone live in recent days. These are located near the A61 and A6 motorways respectively, each offering eight CCS charging points. 

According to Milence, the three new openings will triple the number of charging points it operates in Germany, bringing the total number of hubs in the country to five. The company expects to have eight operational sites in Germany by the end of 2025.

“Germany is the heart and central hub of European road freight transport,” said Milence CEO Anja van Niersen. “Today’s opening of our hub in Recklinghausen marks an important milestone in closing infrastructure gaps for e-mobility in western Germany.”

In France, Milence has opened its ninth charging hub in Dunkirk, situated along the North Sea–Rhine–Mediterranean corridor of the TEN-T network. The site connects northern France with Belgium, the Netherlands and western Germany. 

The company has also started work on a tenth hub near Saint-Witz, located just outside Paris and close to the A1 motorway, aimed at serving cross-border freight routes linking the French capital with Belgium.

Milence’s French network supports several international freight corridors, including routes from Rennes to Zwolle via Lille and Antwerp, and from Paris to the Channel ports via Mondeville and Heudebouville. The southern corridor between Barcelona and Lyon is also covered, with hubs already operating in Perpignan, Béziers and Malataverne.

Each Milence charging hub is equipped with four to eight fast-charging bays offering up to 400 kW. Driver facilities include restrooms and vending machines in Germany, with additional security measures such as gated access and surveillance in France.

The company confirmed that all hubs use a standard charging tariff of €0.399 per kWh (excluding VAT). Payment is available through e-mobility service providers, a Milence charging card or direct card terminal.
