CLdN , the Luxembourg-based shipping company, confirmed it is considering launching a new freight route between Rotterdam and Teesport, depending on customer demand. It also plans to expand its existing Zeebrugge–Teesport route, which was introduced in 2023 and had its capacity increased earlier this year.
The move follows P&O Ferries’ exit from the Zeebrugge–Teesport corridor, leaving CLdN as the sole operator currently offering a direct, unaccompanied RoRo freight service on the route.
CLdN said its long-term agreement with PD Ports, the owner of Teesport, ensures continued access to one of the UK’s deepest general-purpose quays with lock-free access to the North Sea. Teesport, the UK’s sixth largest port, is connected to the national rail network via an on-site intermodal terminal, with two daily train departures to Scotland.
Gary Walker, CLdN’s Chief Operating Officer, said the company is well-positioned to expand:
“The arrival of the two new 8,400 lane metre hybrid RoRo newbuilds has further enhanced our ability to ship unaccompanied freight across the North Sea with lower CO₂ emissions than any of our competitors.”
CLdN currently offers services from Zeebrugge to three UK terminals—Purfleet, Killingholme and Teesport—allowing shippers to optimise delivery routes and reduce road mileage.
Frans Calje, Chief Executive Officer at PD Ports, described Teesport as “a vital link for trade flows between the north of England to mainland Europe and beyond” and expressed support for CLdN’s plans to strengthen services.
