DAF was the first European truck manufacturer to introduce a fully electric truck to the market and has since expanded its offerings in the electric vehicle sector. The company has reported an increase in the number of electric powertrain vehicles in operation, particularly those in the zero-emission category.
The new generation of DAF electric trucks is based on the XD and XF models that won the International Truck of the Year award. These models are equipped with electric engines of up to 350 kW (480 hp) and offer various battery configurations that enable emission-free ranges of up to 500 kilometres. The trucks use LFP (Lithium Ferro Phosphate) batteries, which are renowned for their high energy density, safety, longevity and durability.
DAF has carried out extensive road tests with the new electric models in cooperation with several Dutch transport companies. Gerlof Oegema of Oegema Transport in Dedemsvaart reported that his XD electric truck travels almost 500 kilometres on a single charge, with the potential to reach 1,000 kilometres a day with an additional charge.
Cornelissen Transport in Nijmegen has also incorporated DAF’s XD and XF Electric models into their fleet, primarily using them for supermarket deliveries. According to Peter Leegstraten, Manager of Purchasing & Innovation, these vehicles fit well with the company’s goal of transitioning to zero-emission transport and offer features that enhance their suitability for urban operations.
