Today’s headline story: Barcelona’s city hall approves a total ban on “dark stores”.
A ban on dark stores introduced by Barcelona’s local government seeks to “preserve (traditional) neighbourhood stores and residents’ quality of life”.
On Friday, Barcelona’s city hall approved a total ban on so-called “dark stores” – distribution hubs used by companies that provide grocery home deliveries. The announcement follows similar moves by other European cities such as Amsterdam, where restrictions were introduced in 2022.
The Barcelona ban will come into force in the coming days, once published in the official government gazette, and will affect 21 dark stores, a local government spokesperson said.
