The Deutsche Post DHL Group intends to significantly expand its network of parcel machines (Packstation) in Germany. By 2021 there will be 7,000 of them — the company has announced.

Deutsche Post DHL has a network of 28,000 parcel collection points in Germany, of which 4,000 are Packstation machines and the rest are postal outlets and shops accepting parcels. The network will be expanded by another 3,000 machines in rural areas and cities.

For many more than twelve million of our registered clients, DHL Packstations are an integral part of their online shopping experience and an indispensable component of their daily lives. That’s why we invest heavily to further develop our network of parcel machines throughout Germany. Not only do we respond to a continued parcels volume growth, but we also provide our customers with even greater access to our courier services network – asserts Tobias Meyer, the Board Member of Post & Parcel in Deutsche Post DHL.

Tobias Meyer also highlights that the mix of long opening hours in postal outlets and self-service machines for sending and receiving parcels makes DP DHL services more accessible to customers.

The German postal and logistics operator also points out that they were the first in the country to introduce parcel pickup machines (in 2003). They also plan to continue the Packstation network development after 2021.
