At the annual general meeting the head of the VM, Matthias Müller, stressed out that gas and Diesel engines will stay on the market for a long time. At the same time he announced huge investments in electromobility – the German logistics website www.logistra.de informs.

So far VW has earmarked 3 billion euros on the creation of alternative drive vehicles and over the next 5 years wants to triple the amount of investments.

VW investments in internal combustion engines

Although the group plans to launch up to ten electric models in 2018 and by 2025 wants to be the leading brand in this segment, VW plans to optimise Diesel and gas engines and will spend 10 billion euros by 2022. Ultimately they are to be 10-15% more efficient.

As the head of VW pointed out in the course of the annual general meeting in Hanover:

Classic engines will be indispensable for some time. (…) If we want the sustainable mobility to be at a price affordable to our customers we have to stick with the spectrum: from conventional vehicles to completely electric ones”.

Despite the crisis VW noted the increase in sales

Despite the scandal associated with VW falsifying toxicity measurements in Diesel engine cars, the car sales of the German brand did not decrease. Quite the opposite. According to the manufacturer, in 2016 VW sold worldwide 3.8% more vehicles than in 2015. In December last year alone customers bought 933,000 Volkswagens, 11.8% sales growth compared with the same period in 2015.
