Digital Catapult launches international supply chain accelerator

Digital Catapult has introduced its first International Supply Chain Accelerator, aimed at enhancing global supply chains through deep technology solutions. The initiative comprises two distinct projects: Seamless Trade Across Borders and Product Carbon Footprint Measurement, designed to address supply chain resilience and industrial sustainability on an international scale.

“We are excited to launch this programme to address the critical challenges facing global supply chains today,” said a spokesperson for Digital Catapult. “By applying advanced technologies, we aim to strengthen international trade and help businesses navigate increasing demands for sustainability.”

The Seamless Trade Across Borders project seeks to improve the efficiency of cross-border trade. Supported by Leonardo UK, BAE Systems, BT Group, and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), it aligns with the UK Government’s Electronic Trade Documents Act, which has the potential to contribute £25 billion to economic growth. Four technology providers—eTEU, Linear-works, Parkway Logic, and Kavida AI—have been awarded up to £85,000 each to develop solutions for the project.

“The digitalisation of trade documents represents a significant step forward,” noted a representative from the International Chamber of Commerce. “With over 60% of global trade transactions expected to be digitised in the next five years, this project will be instrumental in unlocking substantial economic benefits.”

The second initiative, Product Carbon Footprint Measurement, focuses on the standardisation of carbon footprint data, addressing the needs of companies facing new environmental regulations. Developed in collaboration with the Partnership for Carbon Transparency (PACT), Unilever, GS1 UK, and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), this project aims to advance carbon data exchange globally. Altruistiq and Siccar have each received up to £125,000 to create solutions using artificial intelligence (AI) and distributed ledger technology (DLT) to support the measurement of Scope 3 emissions.

“This is about creating the tools businesses need to measure and manage their environmental impact,” said a spokesperson from Defra. “The adoption of carbon footprint measurement standards is crucial for companies navigating increasingly complex regulatory frameworks.”

The accelerator programme builds on the Digital Supply Chain Hub, a project developed by Digital Catapult and funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), which has helped over 40 startups and SMEs secure more than £3 million in funding. The International Supply Chain Accelerator aims to continue supporting companies in scaling up and tackling challenges across industries such as defence, manufacturing, and consumer goods.
