According to the German press association, Germany’s parcel industry is increasingly leaving parcels on the doorstep for delivery rather than physically handing them over.

At DPD, the amount of so-called ‘drop-off permits’ has even doubled between 2020 to 2022.

Moreover, DHL drops 40 million such shipments every month, and the trend is rising, says DPA.

The drop-off permits system works in such a way that recipients agree in advance to have parcels placed by their front door, on the terrace or in the garage in their absence.

This, stresses DPA, eliminates waiting time and reduces costs.
