DSV transitions entire London final mile fleet to HVO fuel

Logistics provider DSV has announced it is transitioning its entire 40-vehicle final mile fleet in London from diesel to HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) fuel. This change follows short-term trials aimed at finding a sustainable fuel solution.

The implementation includes installing a dedicated HVO fuel bunker at DSV’s Purfleet Site, with a capacity of 30,000 litres. The final mile fleet covers approximately 2,000,000 miles per annum in the London area, navigating challenges such as congestion and average speed zones impacting CO2 emissions.

HVO fuel is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90% compared to diesel, while maintaining service quality and cost neutrality for customers.

“The results of sustainability trials show progress in reducing our environmental impact,” said John Hawksworth, Senior Director of Domestic Operations at DSV. He also noted DSV’s alignment with the Paris Convention 2030 goals for net-zero emissions in the logistics sector.

In addition to adopting HVO fuel, DSV is trialling sustainability measures including Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), electric vehicles, and ongoing evaluations of HVO implementation in other fleets.

“Our Green Logistics services focus on carbon emission visibility and tailored decarbonisation strategies,” added Hawksworth. “As a logistics provider, DSV aims to mitigate environmental impact across all operational scopes.”
