EU estimations on freight haulage in Europe

Following the recent EU Commission estimations with the overall increase in goods freight in Europe since 1995 there is a subsequent increase in the burden that road transport has both on environment and traffic flows.

The issue of rising demand on freight haulage in Europe requires taking up some actions including: increasing its efficiency by better interaction with other modes of transport, using standardised load carriers. Traffic congestion currently disrupts about 7,500 km of roadway thtoughout Europe, which constitutes nearly 10% of entire road network. European freight haulage with its soaring demand accounts for traffic problems due to the fact that road transport constitutes 50% of all goods transport in the EU.
