– It looked like a movie scene. Lost banknotes were flying over the road, cars stopped, people got off to catch them – recalls Corporal Brock McCrooe in dailymail.co.uk. Residents of neighboring homes jumped over fences to get on the road. A bus driver also grabbed a handful of banknotes. Passengers of a white pickup truck got a whole bag of the precious cargo. Now everyone is wanted by the police.
The truck driver from Brinks had long been unaware of the unusual trail he left behind on American Interstate 70 (I-70), near Holt Road, Indiana. Only when another trucker from the opposite direction started waving at him, he figured that something must have been wrong.
“Wow, it’s my lucky day”
Indeed, 20-dollar bills flew over the road. Hundreds. There were packages of money on the road and the roadside, in some cases bags with cash. It was 9 am, on the I-70 interstate road. It did not take long for drivers to respond.
Witnesses saw how cars stopped abruptly, and people jumped out of them and filled their pockets with cash. Only some of them turned around after a moment.
Naturally, the first reaction is: “Wow, it’s my lucky day.” But sometimes, when morality and ethics come to the fore, you start to realize that it is not your money, but someone else’s. And that you can be accused of theft if we find you” – notes Sergeant John Perrine in an interview with wthr.com.
“When we knock on your door, it will be too late”
In total, several hundred thousand dollars flew out of the truck during the ill-fated course. In the beginning, the police estimated that it could have been as much as 600 thousand dollars. Shortly thereafter, however, they stopped talking about numbers and began to ask for help.
People can distinguish good from evil, so they should be aware that everyone we track down with the dollar from this lost cargo will be arrested for theft” – warns Sergeant Bill Dalton on theindychannel.com. – Time to behave properly, call us and return the money. When we knock on your door, it will be too late” – he adds.
The driver who carried the load does not know how it happened that the back door was not blocked. They may have been faulty, but it’s also possible that someone might have forgotten to secure them. Certainly, the driver is keeping his fingers crossed for the policemen.
