Examiner shortage leaves 5,000 prospective HGV drivers waiting for tests in Catalunya

According to Fenadismer, Spain's most prominent haulage association, the Catalan Government is demanding more staff from Spain's national transport department to help with a driving test backlog. There are said to be as many as 5,000 persons in the region waiting to do HGV licence tests.

The call for extra examiners is just one of a number of issues Fenadismer has highlighted of late.

In particular, the association is keen to see the heavily-utilised AP7 motorway become less accident prone.

To achieve this, Fenadismer wants to see more frequent inspections on HGV traffic, as well as more widespread use of tech to monitor things like truck tyre wear.

The association has also called on the government to help subsidise fleet upgrades for the country’s haulage industry. It says that the average age of Spain’s fleet is 14.5 years, which is above the EU average.
