Lorry drivers are among those exempt from new rules in France that require people to provide proof of vaccination or a covid health pass when going to restaurants.

As reported today on French road transport website Les Routiers, lorry drivers will not be required to show their covid health pass or EU vaccination certificate. Instead, they need only show their driver card to prove they are a lorry driver. The objective of the law is quite simply “to allow those who have no other choice but to eat out to be able to do so”.

Les Routiers states that this is “a good thing” as some trade unions in the country estimate that only 15% of HGV drivers in France have been vaccinated.

According to the new laws, access without a health pass for active road transport professionals “will be permitted in establishments whose list is to be drawn up by prefectural decree.”

The list is expected to be published in a few days, but is likely to be very similar to the list of roadside restaurants that were allowed to stay open during lockdown.

Drivers are also exempt from having to present a health pass when making to deliveries to restaurants and other establishments where a pass is normally required.
