The French Civil Guard are reportedly using Renault T520 trucks fitted with racing profile tyres in order to catch lorry drivers using their mobiles behind the wheel.

A journalist at forotransporteprofesional.es spotted one of the trucks recently, and having discussed the matter with reporters at Les Routiers, it turns out that the French Civil Guard have been using six Renault T520s for a couple years now, and even more so in the last month.

It is said that the Civil Guard have deployed the trucks, which can reach speeds of 150km/h, on some of France’s busiest motorways.

According to a major of the Civil Guard from France’s Drôme region, the lorries are equipped with special tires that meet standards for professional truck racing. The major added that some of his colleagues in the Franche-Comté region had also used the height of their Renault T520 trucks to spot lorry drivers using their mobiles while on the move.

On top of that, the trucks are fitted with Gatso Milla radars so that they can monitor the speed of both truckers and motorists. It is reported that the six trucks are driven more frequently after dark on the A1, A4, A6, A7, A36 and A9 motorways.

Perhaps you have spotted one of the trucks since they entered operation? If so, let us know.
