Sabarot, a family-owned French business specializing in dried legumes, cereals, and wild mushrooms, has announced a significant expansion of its operational capacity at its Chaspuzac centre in France. The company, led by CEO Antoine Wassner, has implemented an expansion of its automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) in collaboration with Mecalux, a warehouse solutions provider.
The expansion of the AS/RS aims to double Sabarot’s storage capacity to 12,000 pallets, with the installation of four additional aisles spanning 92 meters each. These aisles will be operated by stacker cranes, which will autonomously load, unload, and transport pallets under the guidance of Mecalux’s Easy WMS warehouse management system.
One notable feature of the expanded AS/RS is its capability to operate at both ambient and frozen temperatures (-5 °C), catering to Sabarot’s diverse product range.
The decision to expand the AS/RS comes as Sabarot experiences consistent annual growth, with a growth rate of approximately 15% over the past 15 years.
“We decided to add on to our AS/RS because we needed to increase our operational capacity and respond proactively to the growth of our business. We’re extremely satisfied with this expansion. It provides us with high flexibility, allowing us to manage peak activity with great responsiveness,” says Sabarot CEO Antoine Wassner.
Sabarot’s Chaspuzac centre serves as a hub for production, storage, and distribution, catering to clients in over 70 countries worldwide. While the primary markets include France and the UK, Sabarot also exports its products to countries such as Malaysia, the UAE, and Singapore.
The implementation of Mecalux’s Easy WMS ensures real-time monitoring and traceability of Sabarot’s extensive product range, consisting of approximately 7,800 SKUs. This digitalization and automation initiative enhances inventory management reliability and aligns with Sabarot’s commitment to operational excellence.
