A French hotelier has decided to make his hotel’s sanitary facilities available to truck drivers, while a petrol station in Asturias is offering truckers a free coffee and a shower.

In both cases, the businesses wanted to show their appreciation for lorry drivers continuing to work hard throughout the tough conditions presented by the pandemic.

Thierry Benoist, who runs the Ibis and F1 hotels in the northern French city of Laval, said he wanted to help after hearing that lorry drivers had been having issues getting access to toilets.

I offer free access to showers and toilets at F1 Hotel for truck drivers from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM and from 3:30 PM to 7:30 PM upon presentation of a professional ID card. There is a large and easily accessible parking lot,” the hotelier tells actu-transport.fr.

The F1 Hotel in Laval is located near the route between Le Mans and Rennes. Drivers can benefit from free services in the facility from the 6th of November to 1st December, 7 days a week. The owner of the hotel does not rule out extending the offer, depending on the situation and demand in the hotel.

Free coffee and shower

Meanwhile, in Spain, the Quintana Service Station at national road 632, kilometre 146, in Quintana, Asturias, offers drivers free coffee and a shower – regardless of whether they refuel or shop at the station or not.

Truckers can count on a warm drink and a shower at the following times:

  • from 7 AM to 10 PM, Monday to Friday,
  • from 9 AM to 10 PM, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
