German police in Rheinhessen checked all the HGVs on the A61 on Wednesday for overloading issues. They found that every 10th lorry weighed more than allowed.

Overloaded trucks are one of the reasons for a large amount of road damage. That is why the Wörrstadt traffic department checked all goods traffic in the north direction on the A61 at Alzey last Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. All large trucks were diverted to a parking lot where they were measured.

Of the 244 vehicles weighed, 20 were too heavy:

  • 10 trucks were only allowed to continue after they had been reloaded.
  • 13 administrative offence proceedings were initiated
  • In 5 cases the transport profit was confiscated because there was a suspicion that the freight forwarders wanted to undercut the competition with cheap offers by taking too much cargo with them.
