The year 2025 proved challenging for German truck manufacturers. In 2025, the Traton Group sold around 305,500 vehicles, which represents a 9% decrease compared to 334,200 units in the previous year. The best performer was MAN Truck & Bus, which sold 101,600 vehicles, overtaking Scania (94,100 units). MAN’s sales rose by 6%, while Scania recorded an 8% drop (from 102,100 vehicles sold in 2024 to 94,100 in 2025).

MAN beats Scania, but the sales mix is changing

For MAN, truck sales fell slightly by 0.6%. Light commercial vehicles reached a new record – 31,300 TGE, which means a 13% increase. Sales of trucks over 6 tonnes declined, partly due to the overall weakness of the European market.

Sales of electric vehicles are developing dynamically. At Traton, the number of electric vehicles sold increased by 86% to 3,230 units, of which MAN accounted for 1,970 vehicles, including 620 trucks, while Scania delivered 600 units.

Daimler Truck: stability in Europe, declines in North America

Daimler Truck ended 2025 with sales of 422,510 vehicles, i.e. an 8% decrease compared to 460,409 units in 2024. The Mercedes-Benz Trucks segment maintained last year’s sales level – 159,871 vehicles, while Trucks Asia sold 107,055 vehicles, posting a 4% increase.

Significant declines were recorded in the Trucks North America segment – sales amounted to 141,814 vehicles, which represents a 26% drop, and in the fourth quarter they were also clearly lower than in the same period of the previous year

At the same time, sales of Daimler Truck electric vehicles rose by 67% to 6,726 units, indicating growing customer interest in electrification and the potential of new technologies in the truck segment.

Summary and outlook for 2026

The year 2025 showed that German truck manufacturers are facing a weak market in North America and South America, while demand for electric vehicles is rising in Europe. MAN is ahead of Scania, and Daimler Truck is maintaining a stable position in Europe despite declines in the US.

In the coming year, the industry’s attention will be drawn to further changes in the sales mix, the development of electric vehicles, and strategies for adapting to difficult market conditions—factors that may determine who retains the leading position among German truck brands.
