According to the Federal Court of Auditors more and more overloaded trucks destroy German roads and the Ministry of Transport does not react.

As a German website autobild.de says: “One route, double rate. It’s profitable for carriers”. “They cause additional damage to roads with their 50-tonne trucks. This costs Germany hundreds of millions of euros every year.”

These statements are a bit exaggerated but overloaded trucks are the bane of not only German by European roads.

The Federal Court of Auditors criticises the Ministry of Transport for no reaction to these illegal practices used by carriers for many years. It is worth noting that this is not only about the extra money paid for repairs by taxpayers but also safety of all road users.

According to the report drawn up by the Court there is no staff or equipment for effective inspections. While 80 weights were planned, only 41 were actually launched.

Statistically, one truck driver gets his vehicle weighted once every 140 years” – says Matthias Moetsch, autobild.de editor.

Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt did not respond to the opinion of the Federal Court OF Auditors.
