Violating the ban on spending 45-hour break in the cab will be severely punished in Germany. For the misdemeanour the driver will pay a fine of 500 euro while the company owner will pay 1500 euro.
According to the German transport website verkehrsrundschau.de violating the ban which came into force on May 25 this year. Both the driver and the company owner will be punished financially.
The amount of the fine for spending the weekly 45-hour break in the cab has already been established and will soon be entered into the official fine catalogue (Bussgeldkatalog). It is 500 Euro for the driver 1500 for his employer.
According to verkehrsdunrschau.de BAG spokesman reports “the amount has been chosen consciously to scare away the nomadic motorists.”
The police as well as BAG officials and customs officers will be authorised to carry out inspections.
In the end the fine amount is fixed
Up until now the fine amount was to depend on each hour spent in the truck cab. CDU/CSU coalition was planning to impose fines for “nomadism” in the amount of up to 60 euros for drivers and 18 euros for employers for each hour of weekly break in the truck cab.
Ultimately, Germany, over a week after introducing the ban, decided on a fixed fine amount.
