Hamburg Port turns to app-based solution to digitise container collection

Digital truck handling has been launched in Hamburg, Germany. Terminal operator Eurogate has partnered with start-up Conroo to introduce intelligent access software, facilitating combined transport at the Hamburg Container Terminal (CTH). Use of the digital solution will soon be mandatory.

Every day, an average of 3,500 trucks enter the Eurogate Group’s container terminals in Germany to deliver or collect containers. Eurogate commissioned Conroo, a specialist in the digital management of container terminals, depots and warehouses, to develop a digital solution. The result is an application called ‘Gate Pass’ for seaport terminal processes, which identifies truck drivers at the pick-up or delivery point and guarantees arrival and departure without delays. The digital solution was launched by Eurogate on 20 March.

App instead of plastic cards

The existing access rights, i.e. the analogue Trucker Card, with which truck drivers previously registered at the terminal, will no longer be valid at Eurogate Hamburg from 2 May 2024. They will be replaced by the Conroo Gate Pass. From spring 2024, the digital solution will be gradually introduced at all German terminals, i.e. Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven, and soon at Eurogate’s international locations.

Today we are taking more than just a step forward. By implementing the Conroo solution at different locations, we are setting new standards for the entire Eurogate Group. It also sends an important signal to other marine and inland terminals. Ultimately, everyone can benefit from a more efficient exchange of information throughout the supply chain, explains Michael Blach, CEO of the Eurogate Group.

Increased safety and security

One of the main reasons for implementing this solution is the need to significantly increase security throughout the process at Eurogate’s container terminals. The app works on all popular mobile devices and covers the entire process – from registration and fully digital verification of the truck driver to Dakosa route planning (TR02) and on-site instructions. To this end, the Dakosa slot booking process, already in use in Hamburg and Bremerhaven, will also be integrated into the truck driver’s digital card.

The terminal operator pays particular attention to the system, which has numerous interfaces that integrate all participants in the logistics chain – including the TMS, driveMybox platforms, depots and warehouses.

The evolution of the Conroo solution and its connection to port terminals creates significant value for truckers, shippers and terminal operators. Ultimately, the entire supply chain benefits from the digital connection between shippers and truck drivers that we are creating with Conroo Connect, our truck visit system, adds Felix Paul Czerny, co-founder and CEO of Conroo.
