71-year-old HGV driver violates drivers’ hours rules 31 times in just 29 days

On Monday, officials from Austria's state transport department stopped a truck driver who was found to have violated drivers' hours rules an incredible 31 times in 29 days.

Police pulled the driver over on Monday at 8am on the B70 in Lieboch (near Graz) and promptly went about conducting an inspection.

During the checks, it was found that the 71-year-old Austrian had violated drivers’ hours rules a total of 31 times in the last 29 days. Over half of his violations were considered “very serious”, while another seven were considered “serious”. There were also eight minor violations.

He was reported to the relevant authorities in the Graz region, who will decide on his punishment.

It also turned out that the lorry driver not only had plenty of experience, but had also experienced being reported for such violations “several times” in the past.
