iBoxen, who are developing an open parcel locker network in Sweden, has unveiled a new parcel locker model that is powered by batteries charged via solar cells.
The company installed its first lockers just a couple of years ago and now boasts 1,600 in Sweden. Now some of those lockers will be powered by solar energy, making them an ever greener alternative to home delivery.
Besides being powered by solar-energy, the new lockers differ from existing iBoxen models in that they have compartments of different sizes. The company believes this will make the lockers more accessible to more types of goods deliveries.
Commenting on the news, Mikael Tingblad, Head of Supply Chain at iBoxen, said that the company wants to continually develop its lockers to make them as “safe and efficient as possible from a sustainability perspective”.
