The e-CMR protocol, which came into effect in Italy last week, establishes a legal framework for paperless goods transport by road.

The transition from paper-based to digital consignment notes aims to enhance the efficiency and safety of goods transport within Italy and to neighbouring countries.

The adoption of e-CMR is expected to reduce handling costs, eliminate administrative and invoicing delays, and minimise discrepancies at delivery sites.

Additionally, e-CMR improves transparency and security throughout the logistics chain by providing accurate data for tracing shipments and real-time access to pick-up and delivery information, explains IRU.
