On Saturday (21 March) evening, the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced the decision to stop all production activity that is not inevitable for the functioning of the state. This is another step to stop the spread of the coronavirus epidemic.
The Prime Minister assured that the production of food, medicines and other necessary items will be continued. Shops and pharmacies will still stay open and public transport will continue to operate.
We are slowing the country’s production engine, but we are not stopping it, ”Conte said.
Stopping production can significantly reduce the demand for transport services. Companies cooperating with some Italian shippers should expect cancelled orders.
