Kent County Council plans to continue to fine truckers using back roads during Operation Brock

Lorry drivers using back roads in Kent on their way to and from ports during Operation Brock risk being issued on-the-spot fines of up to £300, according to local online news channel KMTV.

As explained in the report linked above, measures were implemented in January allowing the local authorities to fine lorry drivers who did not use designated routes during Operation Brock.

However, like the HGV parking ban in Kent, it now appears that the fines will remain in place despite only originally being referred to as a temporary measure.

Conservative Councillor Paul Bartlett, who represents Ashford Borough Council, told KMTV that he thought “the engagement between the haulage industry and the government has been exemplary.” A point we imagine some of our readers may have something to say about.

Mr Bartlett then went on to support the fines for drivers, which he says “concentrate the mind” and provide “a backup for the government if the hauliers go to they go off-piste  and try to circumvent the rules.”

The news is just the latest blow for truck drivers operating in Kent, and follows reports that the unpopular HGV parking ban is likely to continue as well.
