Lithuanian haulier Vlantana expands fleet with 65 LNG Volvo lorries

Lithuanian logistics company Vlantana is set to expand its fleet with 65 new gas-powered Volvo FH trucks as part of its commitment to sustainable transportation. The first seven lorries arrived at the end of June, with the remaining vehicles scheduled for delivery by September.

The new lorries, equipped with Volvo G13C engines, offer the same 460 HP and 2,300 Nm torque as their diesel counterparts but with significantly lower emissions. When fuelled by liquefied biogas (bio-LNG), these trucks can achieve up to a 100% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional diesel engines, or a 20% reduction when using natural gas.

“We consider the EU Green Deal objectives in our operations and aim to engage in pollution reduction measures by diversifying our vehicle fleet. Our investments in our own liquefied natural gas station and increasing the number of gas-powered trucks are essential climate change mitigation measures. We hope this will strengthen our position in the transportation services market, better meet our customers’ expectations, and maintain transport profitability,” said Vlantana CEO Sabina Chochrina.

In conjunction with the new fleet, Vlantana has also installed Lithuania’s first liquefied and compressed natural gas refueling station. This station, capable of refuelling up to 20 lorries per hour, supports vehicles from various manufacturers. It boasts an 80,000-litre capacity and a refuelling flow rate of 2.5 to 4.5 thousand kg/h.

“Vehicle manufacturers, together with carriers and transport service clients, must move towards a cleaner future. Gas-powered trucks are one of the best alternatives to diesel. We are pleased to introduce the first gas-powered Volvo trucks to Vlantana, which will contribute to the carrier’s sustainability and help reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the road transport sector,” said Nicholas Kjaer, Managing Director of Volvo Trucks Lithuania.
