“Whilst in the Hungarton area at lunch time we came across this van. A quick check revealed it had been stolen the day before! We’d like to thank the driver of this lorry from Long Clawson Dairy who stopped to assist the officer as he was on his own and there were 2 people in the van!” – posted Leicestershire & Rutland Rural Policing Team on its Facebook page on Saturday.

Simon Majury, the driver of the aforementioned lorry, who was soon hailed a hero after the story went viral, described the car chasing story to the local newspaper the Melton Times.

According to the article, Majury was coming from the opposite direction when he noticed a police car was pursuing a white van. When the police car was next to him, the officer stopped the lorry and asked Majury to block the van as it was flagged stolen.

The lorry driver didn’t hesitate to help; he blocked the passenger side door so the two people inside the van couldn’t escape while the police officer handcuffed them to the steering wheel.

When the police posted on Facebook a thank you message to the driver, Majury simply and humbly answered, “a pleasure”.
