A 3-hour inspection conducted by German road police police at a lorry park next to Hoffenheim’s football stadium on Monday has led to the detection of several violations.
According to a police statement, the aim of the inspection was to monitor compliance with regular weekly rest periods.
A total of eight trucks were comprehensively checked, the results of which were described by the police as “sobering” by officers.
Four out of the eight truck drivers inspected had illegally spent their rest periods in their cabins. As a result, both the drivers and their employers have been reported to the authorities. In addition, three of eight also exceeded their allocated driving times and did not observe the required rest.
Moreover, seven of the eight heavy vehicles had technical defects, four of which were serious enough for officers to keep the trucks off the road until they had been repaired.
All of the aforementioned drivers, who were from Eastern Europe according to the police, were issued fines amounting to several thousand euros.
Commenting on the inspection, officers declared the findings “shocking” and said that they would not be letting up when it comes to further HGV checks.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in Germany, a Greek truck driver was fined a 4-figure sum on Monday after being found guilty of tachograph manipulation during checks near Jettingen-Scheppach.
