Working in transport has never been easy. It is a constant stress, tension and lack of time. However, the market is changing, and with it approach to the employee. This is the opinion of the Latvian journalists of the LSM.lv website who call on the industry to change the treatment of its drivers.
Everybody remembers how it was in the past.The boss was buying the car, handing it over to the driver and saying – drive. And the driver was driving. Today, at least in larger companies, bosses communicate with their drivers more than ever. They listen to their opinions, share their fears and ask about work comfort.
Communication with drivers is the development of a transport company
More and more entrepreneurs begin to notice that the driver’s comfort means greater security of load and vehicle. While driving in uncomfortable conditions you tire more quickly, your attention is not focused on the road and ending in a ditch is certain. Consequently, this damages the load and the vehicle.
Andrejs Masulis, Managing Director of Mūsa Motors Rīga says that since he started listening to his drivers he has gained a lot. This is primarily about employee loyalty and their reliability in terms of timeliness and load security.
Successful carriers owe it to the fact that they took the drivers’ needs into account from the very beginning” – says one of LSM.lv journalists.
Employee work comfort is paramount
According to experts, today, when competition has forced vehicle manufacturers to unify their products to such a degree that it is difficult to distinguish one brand from another, one of the main criteria for choosing vehicles is the level of driver’s comfort.
A. Masulis gives an example: air conditioning in cabins. Only a few years ago the presence of air conditioning was an option. Nowadays it is one of the basic criteria for selecting a brand. The company he manages sells trucks. In the company garages he has a few vehicles without air conditioning. Nobody wants to buy them and they’ve been standing there for ages.
