In a Facebook post describing the find, SYP Operational Support said: “often people think we are just punishing those going about their work, but you couldn’t be further from the truth.”
The admin of the police Facebook page then added:
“We know that light and heavy commercial vehicle use accounts for a significant portion of the traffic on our roads, and due to what they are used for the ‘chances’ that are taken by companies and drivers alike can be extremely dangerous. Those are the ones we target, as they cause the greatest danger and give the majority of responsible working road users a bad name. These photos below of just one of the vehicles stopped so far today are an example of this.”
The police then cited the case of the vehicle photographed above as an example. It was stopped on the A1, and found to be 100% overweight on it’s gross and almost 100% just on the rear axle.
In addition, the load security was considered to be “wholly inadequate”, while the driver of the vehicle was uninsured. Officers thus branded the vehicle as a “calamity waiting to happen”.
The vehicle has been seized and the driver will be summoned to court.
“In this case points do not make prizes, they most likely make for a disqualification,” concluded SYP Operational Support.
