The new company, named Coretura AB, officially began operations in June 2025 after receiving regulatory approval. It focuses on creating a software-defined vehicle (SDV) platform and operating system tailored to trucks and buses.
Both manufacturers aim to separate hardware and software development cycles, allowing digital applications to be updated wirelessly and independently from vehicle hardware upgrades.
Initially staffed by around 50 employees, Coretura will expand in line with technical milestones. Its first products are expected to be installed in commercial vehicles by the end of the decade.
The SDV platform is designed to serve as a non-differentiating base, enabling each company, as well as potential third-party partners, to develop custom digital services on top. According to the press release, the system will include centralised high-performance control units capable of handling large volumes of vehicle data.
Johan Lundén, appointed CEO of Coretura and formerly responsible for strategic product planning at Volvo Group, said the venture would “decouple software and hardware development cycles” and lead to more efficient and flexible vehicle updates.
Volvo and Daimler will remain competitors in vehicle products and services but will collaborate through Coretura on the underlying digital infrastructure. The venture is open to additional industry partners and suppliers.
