A haulage company based in the Gothenburg area has been fined 256,270 Swedish Krona (roughly €25,445) after being found guilty of several driving and rest time violations.

The road transport firm’s violations actually amount to sanctions totalling €550,000, reports trailer.se. However, the fine ended up being significantly lower due to the current regulations that base financial penalties on a company’s annual turnover.

According to the Swedish Transport Agency, the haulier’s drivers were found to have used a tachograph card of their colleague on 178 occasions.

The Swedish Transport Agency’s inspection showed that the drivers who drove for the haulier regularly violated driving and rest times. The haulier was also guilty of the following violations:

  • 108 occasions when diagram sheets or driver cards were taken out when not permitted.
  • 81 occasions when the reduced daily rest was insufficient
  • 72 occasions when the daily rest was insufficient
  • 51 occasions when the driving time was more than 4.5 hours

On top of the above, the company was found to have employed 28 Romanian drivers without registering them as posted workers.
