The new sites will be located near the parcel carrier’s current facilities in Kingsbury/Atherstone and Marston Gate. According to FedEx, each of the hubs will have the capacity to sort 32,000 packages per hour and will handle a range of shipments, including international freight and e-commerce deliveries.
The company says the multi-year project will result in changes to working locations for some employees. However, no immediate impact on jobs has been confirmed. FedEx stated it will consult with union and employee representatives as the consolidation progresses.
The move comes as part of a wider strategy to modernise FedEx’s UK network and streamline operations. The new facilities will incorporate advanced technologies aimed at improving efficiency and handling capacity across the company’s domestic and international services.
FedEx currently operates five road hubs in the UK, although it has not disclosed which facilities are due to close. The company also runs air operations from three UK airports and has been active in the country since 1984.
With a global network that spans 220 countries and territories and delivers 17 million packages daily, FedEx says the changes will position it for future growth and support businesses trading both domestically and internationally. The company also highlighted that the new hubs would provide improved working environments for staff.
No details have yet been provided regarding the financial investment involved or the timeline for construction at each site.
