Tesla announced that it would present the information at IAA Transportation, held in Hannover from 15 to 20 September 2026. The wording represents its clearest commitment yet to a European commercial launch, although it stops short of confirming an on-sale or delivery date.
This will not be the Semi’s European debut, as some reports have suggested. Tesla already exhibited the vehicle at IAA Transportation in 2024, where visitors could take demonstration rides. At that event, Tesla Semi programme director Dan Priestley said the company had developed a shorter prototype compatible with European dimensional rules and trailer couplings. That version was expected to offer around 480 km of range, but no launch timetable followed.
Tesla has discussed bringing the Semi to Europe repeatedly since then. As Trans.iNFO reported in November 2025, the company was still preparing its homologation plans and had not set a firm European launch date.
UK website reveals 550 km specification
Ahead of the September presentation, Tesla’s UK website already displays what appears to be a European Standard Range configuration.
Tesla lists approximately 550 km of range at a claimed consumption of 1.0 kWh/km. The tractor is specified for a 40-tonne gross combination weight and has a stated kerb weight of 9,100 kg.
Other figures include:
- three motors mounted on the rear axles;
- drive power of up to 800 kW;
- MCS charging compatibility;
- recovery of up to 60% of the range in 30 minutes;
- electric power take-off output of up to 25 kW.
Only the Standard Range model currently appears on the UK page. Tesla has not confirmed whether Europe will also receive the approximately 800 km Long Range version offered in North America.
This will be one of the important questions for Hannover, alongside pricing, ordering, deliveries, servicing and the rollout of suitable high-power charging infrastructure.
Einride plans deployment of 500 trucks
The European announcement follows a major North American commitment from Swedish freight technology company Einride. On 18 August, Einride announced the planned deployment of 500 Tesla Semi trucks, describing it as the largest Tesla Semi deployment agreed to date.
The vehicles will operate for Amazon and other Einride customers across North America, including freight corridors in California, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois and Georgia. Deployment is scheduled to begin in September 2026 and proceed in phases over 24 months, subject to third-party financing.
Einride says the trucks will triple the size of its deployed electric fleet. The agreement could demonstrate whether Tesla can finally move beyond small customer trials and produce the Semi at scale. It does not, however, include any European deployments.
Tesla first presented the Semi in 2017 and initially promised production in 2019. Initial vehicles reached PepsiCo in late 2022, but output remained limited for several years.
The September announcement should therefore be treated as another step towards a European launch, not the launch itself. After years of plans and prototypes, the decisive information will be when European operators can place firm orders—and when Tesla promises to deliver them.
