Motorway toll booth workers to go on strike in Italy

Staff working at toll booths on stretches of Italy's A11, A12 and A15 motorways will go on strike on the 30th of April and May 1st. However, hauliers needn't worry about any disruption, as many barriers will simply be left open.

As reported by Transport Italia, the strike will affect toll booths on the A11 from Viareggio to Lucca, the A12 from Livorno to Sestri Levante and the A15 from Fornola to Parma.

The staff due to go on strike all work for SALT (the Ligurian-Tuscan motorway company). The industrial dispute has been sparked by plans to have all the toll booth barriers automated in the future. Employees collecting unpaid tolls are also set to go on strike in solidarity.

During the strike action, which will last from 10pm on April 30th until 10pm on May 1st, all barriers that are manually operated will simply be left open.

Transport Italia adds that those using Telepass will not lose out either as any charges or credit shall be returned.
