Key takeaways:
- Clean-Ride is a complete portable shower system designed for use inside a truck cab.
- Seven litres of water are enough for a four-minute hot shower.
- The water-heating system runs directly from the truck’s 24 V socket.
- The setup is designed to fit any truck with an interior cab height of at least 190 cm.
- The product is being presented at IAA Transportation 2026 and is scheduled to go on sale in January 2027.
Bathrooms built into trucks are not entirely new. In October 2025, Trans.info reported on German haulier Vp TPA Mobile Straßen, which equipped its vehicles with complete bathrooms featuring a shower, toilet and sink. That solution was integrated into the vehicle itself. Clean-Ride uses a different approach: instead of a permanent conversion, it offers a portable system that can be assembled inside a truck cab.

Clean-Ride
Europe’s driver shortage remains a major challenge, so carriers are competing not only through pay but also through better vehicle equipment, more predictable schedules and improved access to suitable facilities during rest periods.
A private shower in a compact suitcase
Portability is central to the Clean-Ride concept. Once folded, the complete system fits into a small travel suitcase that can be carried in the truck and then set up as a private shower inside the cab in just a few steps.

The kit includes a flexible inflatable shower enclosure designed to adapt to the available space in different vehicles. According to the manufacturer, Clean-Ride can be used in any truck model with a cab height of at least 190 cm.
The enclosure is inflated using the pneumatic gun already available in the truck. Clean-Ride also highlights the use of quick-drying material, which should allow the system to be packed away soon after use.
Seven litres for a four-minute shower
Clean-Ride comes with its own water-heating system. The unit draws power directly from the truck’s 24 V socket, allowing the water to be heated using the truck’s onboard power supply.
The manufacturer says seven litres of water are enough for a four-minute hot shower.

The concept is simple: drivers can wash inside the cab without having to look for an available shower at a parking area or another roadside facility. The manufacturer’s main selling points are privacy and greater independence on long journeys.
From trucks with built-in bathrooms to portable facilities
Carriers themselves are also recognising the shortage of suitable sanitary facilities along the route. German company Vp TPA Mobile Straßen, for example, presented its trucks fitted with their own bathrooms, including a shower, toilet and sink, describing them as “mobile homes on wheels”.
The underlying goal is similar in both cases: reducing drivers’ dependence on the sanitary infrastructure available along the route. The difference lies in how the idea is delivered. For the German haulier, the bathroom is part of the equipment installed in a specific truck. Clean-Ride, by contrast, is a portable product intended for use in vehicles that meet its cab-height requirement.
Driver comfort becomes a recruitment factor
The development of products like this is closely linked to Europe’s driver labour market. As Trans.info reported, around 426,000 truck-driver positions remained unfilled in Europe in 2024. At the same time, fewer than 5% of truck drivers in the European Union were under 25.
In Germany alone, industry organisations estimated the shortfall at approximately 100,000–120,000 drivers. Around 30,000 people retire from the profession there each year, while only about half that number enter it.
To make the profession more attractive, carriers are also trying to improve everyday conditions on the road. Measures include better cab equipment, improved mattresses and air conditioning, larger refrigerators, paid access to secure parking, more predictable schedules and suitable sanitary facilities.
A shower in the cab is one of the more visible examples of this trend, but it addresses a practical need: maintaining personal hygiene during trips that last several days.
More than three years in development, debuting at IAA

Clean-Ride
Clean-Ride is the result of more than three years of development work. The product has been patented and is making its public debut at IAA Transportation 2026. The system is on display from 14 to 20 September 2026 in Hanover, in Hall 12 at booth SA07. The manufacturer is demonstrating the product in operation.
The exhibition debut comes ahead of the product’s commercial launch. Clean-Ride is scheduled to enter the market in January 2027. The company also says it is ready to discuss larger orders and fleet applications with interested businesses.
