The vehicle combination involved documents and registration plates from several countries. The driver had a Senegalese passport, a Spanish residence permit, a Lithuanian driving licence and a French driver card. The trailer was travelling on Dutch export plates, while the tractor unit carried Danish registration plates.
“International transport at its finest — at least on paper,” police officers commented.
Forged licence, driver card and registration plate
A closer verification of the documents revealed that several of them were not genuine.
Officers confirmed that the Lithuanian driving licence had been forged. The driver had then used it to obtain a French driver card. The tractor unit also failed the document check: its Danish registration plate was fake and was not valid for use on Dutch roads.
The man was detained and questioned before being handed over to the Dutch AVIM department, which deals with foreign nationals, identification and human trafficking. The authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the driver’s identity.
