Truck seized after drug-fuelled HGV driver clocked at 131 km/h

A 50-year-old lorry driver from Spain has had his HGV licence suspended and will face charges after being caught driving well above the speed limit while under the influence of cocaine.

The incident occurred on Friday, October 28th on the A36 in France by Villars-sous-Écot. The story was reported by French newspaper L’est Republicain.

It is said that the lorry driver attracted the attention of the road traffic police after a radar check clocked him at the shocking speed of 131 km/h.

The police immediately tracked down the trucker and arrested him. He was tested for alcohol and drugs and was found to be under the influence of cocaine.

Astonishingly, analysis of the driver’s tachograph revealed that he had reached even higher speeds in his HGV in other countries.

L’est Republicain writes that the data showed the 50-year-old had driven as fast 163 km/h in his HGV. The driver reportedly explained that he had achieved the massive speeds by shifting to neutral while going downhill.

The truck itself was seized by officers, while the driver has had his HGV licence suspended and shall face further charges.
