A German driver and his employer are expected to be fined €5000 as a result of the driver being unable to present a valid HGV licence or a tachograph card to inspectors. It turns out the driver’s documents expired in 2017.
Last Tuesday, the 63-year-old driver, who was working for a German forwarding company, was checked by German traffic officers. According to local media reports, the inspectors found that the driver was not in possession of a valid professional driver qualification or a valid tachograph card.
Although a further investigation remains to be completed, officers learned that the trucker had travelled a total of over 3,500 kilometres and 80 hours of driving without a tachograph card. One would therefore presume that he had recently returned to trucking after a hiatus of a few years.
The traffic officers forbid the driver from continuing his journey.
Both the driver and his employers can now expect an investigation and a fine of up to €5,000.
